23rd June, 2020 is celebrated as the “International Women in Engineering Day” around the globe every year. International Women in Engineering Day is an international awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the amazing career opportunities available to girls in this exciting industry. It celebrates the outstanding achievements of women engineers throughout the world.

Silver Oak University IEEE WIE Affinity Group always aims to advocate women in leadership roles in IEEE governance and career advancement for women in the profession. Keeping the same in mind and to praise the notable contribution and overwhelming achievements of women in the engineering field, SOU IEEE WIE AG decided to celebrate this special day virtually in this crucial scenario of Covid-19. To celebrate this day, we had organized an online activity wherein students/participants were invited to showcase the artistry on “Women in Engineering” in numerous categories such as Poetry, Write-Ups, Posters/ Digital Graphics, Sketches/ Paintings and Videos. We had received a wonderful response from the participants. Students had expressed their thoughts on “Women in Engineering” in a unique way.

Silver Oak University IEEE WIE Affinity Group always emphasizes on enhancing the knowledge of students in the field of technology. Keeping the same in mind, a two-day workshop titled “Getting into Data Science using Python” was organized on 1st and 2nd June 2020. The sole purpose behind organizing this workshop was to comprehend the fundamentals of the most demanding field in today’s technical era, Data Science and Python alongside some of its libraries. The event had begun with the basics of data science and was carried out with the hands-on practice of Python language and some Data Science concepts. This event was open for all and with a view to expand this knowledge with other learning enthusiasts, the entire event is accessible on the official YouTube channel of Silver Oak University IEEE SB. We had a very talented and highly experienced person for conducting this workshop. as this event has achieved magnificent views and positive responses.

On the first day of this workshop, Mr. Sajjad Hussain started the session with the brief introduction of Data Science and how Data Science and Data Analytics differs. Moreover, he also discussed the skill sets that are required to become a Data Scientist and some real-time applications of Data Science in various fields. He gave a detailed explanation of Machine Learning Pipeline, Algorithms/Models, Clustering, and Data Science Libraries. He covered all the basic concepts of Python language such as data types, string, list, loops, dictionary, functions, class, and many more during the hand-on practice session.

The speaker commenced the second session with a quick recap of day 1 followed by a brief about the topics of day 2. Moreover, he explained principles of Data Representation and discussed various Algorithms and Models along with its working and real-time applications.He had even led a hands-on practice session for a better understanding of different algorithms and libraries such as NumPy and Pandas.

Description: Gujarat Section Professionals’ Awareness Seminar 2020 was a series of webinar sessions held on 26th-27th April, 2020. Organized by IEEE Gujarat Section and hosted by IEEE GCET Student Branch, this webinar series was targeted for working professionals that was inclusive of topics like, Patent Filing and Cyber Laws, which are currently significant in the professional and technological domain. The Seminar was attended by students, faculties and working professionals alike, for whom these topics are essential.

The first session of GSPAS was based on Cyber Awareness. Adv. Manan Thakker discussed various aspects of Cyber Awareness and its implications. He talked about the different cases that dealt with the issue of Cybersecurity. He explained the immense value of data in today’s world and why major data crimes are being committed. About 110 participants attended this session. He put forth a ton of examples from which the participants got insights into the frauds that are being committed online, which involve the stealing of data and the monetary benefits it produces for the criminals. Mr Manan Thakker extrapolated on the solutions that one can implement in order to protect themselves from these crimes. Finally, he concluded the session by mentioning the Cyber Laws currently existing in our country and the importance of following them for an individual as well as a company or a group.

The second session of GSPAS was based on Patent Filing & Related Issues. Helmed by Mr Rahul Dev, this session was of prime importance to graduates and working professionals who are majorly into the field of research and would want to explore the process and methodology of patent filing. Around 90 people actively attended this webinar. Rahul Dev started the session by explaining the need and reasons one needs to file patents. He talks participants through the patent filing process and the need for a Patent Attorney. He discusses his roles and responsibilities as a Patent Attorney. One of the key questions that most people have is that, can a person single handedly file a patent successfully? Mr Rahul Dev provided an answer to this question by analyzing the risks involved in doing so. Finally, he concluded the session by presenting some more facts and figures regarding Patent Filing and also entertaining questions from participants regarding the same.

Gujarat Section Professionals’ Awareness Seminar, which spanned over a period of two days saw 100+ participants from various backgrounds come together to inculcate knowledge. The sole motive of this event was to organize fruitful discussions and informative sessions for professionals on the topics that are of utmost relevance to them.

With GSPAS 2020, everyone who was a part of it left with a sense of satisfaction, loads of knowledge and clarity about the matter at hand.

“GENESIS – Beyond Learning” was a five-day webinar series organised by Silver Oak University IEEE SB and WIE AG in collaboration with Headstart Network Foundation, PyData Ahmedabad, GDG Ahmedabad, WTM Ahmedabad & GDG Cloud Ahmedabad. The motto behind this event was to empower knowledge and inculcate skills amongst students with virtue of discovering aspects of technology and professionalism. For this webinar series, we had very prominent and eminent speakers. The event was held from 25th April to 29th April 2020 on the official YouTube channel of our SB and the highlights of the webinars can be found there. More than 1000 participants from 70+ different institutes & communities had participated in this event and learnt something new in this situation.

WIE Affinity Group, IEEE SIGHT, and IAS-PES Joint Chapter of the IEEE GCET Student Branch organized a webinar series, ColloQ 2020, which focused on increasing awareness of humanitarian developments worldwide and encouraging participation among people towards taking their first step towards the welfare of humanity.

ColloQ was an international event and it was globally open for all. In total, 387 people registered for the event and there were 200+ attendees in the sessions.

It was a 2-day event wherein speakers from different humanitarian domains shared their knowledge and experience on how to help humanity grow. The main purpose of ColloQ was to impart various ideologies related to humanity.
