In this talk, Shri Adarsh Jain will focus on the system engineering aspects of satellite-based quantum communication, emphasizing the role of satellites in enabling long-range global Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). Unlike fiber-optic and terrestrial free-space QKD, which are constrained by distance limitations due to fiber absorption or atmospheric losses, satellite-based QKD provides a viable solution for distributing secure keys over thousands of kilometers, making it suitable for global coverage.
