The IEEE ComSoc Chapter of Gujarat Section is proud to present the second talk in its webinar series on Quantum Communication. This insightful session, titled “Quantum Secured Communication Systems & Applications”, will explore the transformative potential of quantum communication technology and its implications for secure global communications. The expert speaker for this event is Shri Adarsh Jain, Head, Quantum systems & technology Division, SAC,ISRO Talk Summary: Quantum communication leverages the principles of quantum mechanics to offer unparalleled security, making it an ideal solution for secure data transmission. In this talk, Shri Adarsh Jain will focus on the system engineering aspects of satellite-based quantum communication, emphasizing the role of satellites in enabling long-range global Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). Unlike fiber-optic and terrestrial free-space QKD, which are constrained by distance limitations due to fiber absorption or atmospheric losses, satellite-based QKD provides a viable solution for distributing secure keys over thousands of kilometers, making it suitable for global coverage. The session will cover key topics, including: – Single and entangled photon-based QKD protocols – Space and ground segments of satellite-based QKD systems – Integrated QKD networks and international developments – Challenges in implementation and potential applications This talk will also provide a deep dive into the practical challenges and future prospects of satellite-based quantum communication systems, offering valuable insights into their applications in various sectors, including cybersecurity, defense, and communications.
